After the tope the celebration in the party area is officially on.

For the hole family: In the party area are available a lot of rides for the kids and family to enjoy, but from the afternoon on the party start for all the young and older people that come from around the country to drink outside.

The Mega bars: The main party attraction of Palmares is this bars around the party are, there are different offers depending on your taste on music, ambient and concerts. The entrance of the bars is not cheap but they offer games and entertainment.

Outside: The offer of food is better every year, besides the typical Costa Rican party food (chopsuey, pupusas, churros, vigoron), there is also a pizza, fried chicken, sandwich, fried pork and beer in special for everyone. So if you are not feeling like entering one of the mega bars, there are smaller bars and beer is offer for a special price outside.

Some big concerts, the tope, and the carnival are free entrance. Also there are private concerts and events that need an entrance fee, but everything is a lot of fun, just be careful of pickpockets.

I believe The Palmares Civic Celebration is a good way to have a lot of beer and meet the ticos partying really, really hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cahuita!!

This Caribbean coast town and beach has a lot to offer.

About Cahuita
The nature around the national park is very rich, and the beach is really beautiful!! If you enjoy nature and the beach this is a perfect relaxing place to visit, is usually not very crowdie so you really enjoy the late back atmosphere.

Nightlife
The nightlife offer consist mostly of three bars, two right in front of each other in the center of Cahuita and another reggae bar in Playa Negra. The beer is less than 1000 colones, but is cheaper in the town bars than restaurants. There are also supermarkets with liquor shops.

Accommodation
The offer of places to stay is very large, most of them are cabins but with small differences. Is easy to come to Cahuita without a reservation and to find something nice in different prices ranges. The most expensive prices can be around $50 per person, per night.

Food
The meals offer is also pretty good and you can find sodas* and restaurants. The food in Cahuita is more expensive than San José but similar to other beach towns. A cheap breakfast can cost 2500 colones**, a cheap lunch 3000 colones, an expensive meal can cost 7000 colones or more.

* Sodas: are the typical small Costa Rican restaurant, the food offering in the sodas are usually base with rice, beans, side dishes, meat and typical soups.

** Colones is the Costa Rican currency the exchange rate at this moment is $1 x 500 colones.

Around our country

This new blog is about general information about travelling in Costa Rica I hope you enjoy it.

Getting to Costa Rica: Our airports are small and sometimes can get crowded, so get into the costarrican mood as you get off the plane and just have fun waiting by talking to people or reading. There is no point complaining and getting a bad start to your trip because you are waiting a while.

Taking the Bus: Public transportation will get you everywhere in Costa Rica, but depending of the services it will stop a lot or pick up people on the way. Be aware of this before you purchase your travelling tickets because is not the bus driver problem if your are late or have to stand up all the way.

Toilets: For me this is a very important subject. Most times the bathrooms here have no toilet paper so always (especially if you are a girl like me) carry a little bag of tissues or toilet paper with you so you won’t be surprise in a bad way. Also sometimes toilets can be dirty so be careful when you use them. In Costa Rican we don’t throw toilet paper in the toilet, so use the garbage bin.

The roads: This is one of the most terrible costarrican reality, the roads here are terrible most of them are full with holes, this is a real problem that you’ll encounter when you come here, also the drivers here are very aggressive so please be careful. Don’t let this fact stop you from coming because there are more of Costa Rica than our roads.

The deal with the addresses: most of you probably know that is very easy to get lost in Costa Rica, mainly because the houses, streets and avenues are not mark. So how does it work? In Costa Rica an address is given in meters from a landmark, for example my house is 400 m from the cemetery. The second floor is a more rock’n’roll bar, but because they have a lot of tables it could be a bit crowded.
Service: split bills can be a real problem and waiting for waiters while is full too. ♠♠

Caramba $$
The corner bar of the three connecting bars is very small and has change a lot in the past, at this moment they have reggae roots music and the food of the three bars offers good food options in prices and variety.
Service: wait for the waiters but sometimes they can be slow. ♠♠

Marisqueria $$
Just around the corner is the more sitting and talking kind of atmosphere of the three bars, during the day they offer food for lunch in good prices (casado)*
Recommendation: Tuesday is 2x1 cocktails.
Service: wait for the waiters but sometimes they can be slow. ♠♠

Bulevar $$
This the biggest bar in the center of Heredia, it has 4 atmospheres and sometimes they charge for admision, the first floor is a crowded talking atmosphere, in the back they offer live trova music for an extra price and a more relax time, the second floor is the big party area in the balcony they offer dancing Latin music and in the back a more rock’n’roll area with two pool tables.
Recommendation: ask for the offers.
Service: wait for the waiters but sometimes they can be slow, or go to the bar and that can also be slow. ♠

Quiz Tavern $
A more relax underground place is this very small open to the air heredian bar. This is a more off the path kind of place and I specially recommended it to sit on the afternoon, listen to Latin rock and have a nice cold beer, they also offer food in a good price.
Recommendation: onion rings.
Service: ask at the bar for your order and pay at front. ♠♠

La Habana $
The punk – rock Heredia bar, this is a good place if you are into more heavy music and enjoy a laid black atmosphere they also offer food.
Service: ask at the bar for your order and pay at front. ♠♠

The Cowboy $$
This is a big bar with a lot of options of food and drinks, is usually busy with a big multiage crow enjoying the live music or rocola music. Is a very different atmosphere than many bars in Costa Rica.
Service: wait for the waiters but sometimes they can be slow. ♠♠

Los Amigos $
A little further north is relaxing bar, the option of local beer is good but the service is not the best.
Recommendation: up stairs is nice and cool.
Service: ♠

Closer to the center of town:
Heredia’s Center is full of small bars called “Chinchorros”is type of bar are good options if you just like to sit and drink. This type of bars are usually cheap and offer small food called “bocas” they variety can change but usually contains beans, rice, some type of meat (including tripe or pork skin).

El Cholo $$
This a bar located in from of the “Palacio de Los Deportes” that has a nice European vibe, if you want good food, atmosphere in a more sitting down and talk place this is perfect for you.
Recommendation: Enjoy wine and sangria for a very good price.
Service: very good service. ♠♠♠

There are also a lot of bars in the north part of Heredia in San Rafael and the Monte de la Cruz especially, if you are looking for a mountain going out experience head for this area and you’ll sure find a good time!!!! The price is usually more expensive but they’ll offer live music and entertainment.

$ Good pricing
$$ More expensive
$$$ Very expensive

♠ Bad
♠♠ Ok
♠♠♠ Very Good

* The translation is married because is typical household meal, complete meal with rice, beans, side dishes and a choice of meat, fish, chicken or pork this food is the best value for your money if you (like me) like to travel on a budget!! And varies from restaurant to restaurant so besides the rice and beans the meal does change.
